WHAT: Step into History—a Fireside Chat with Mildred (Millie) Hofer – “Growing up in Hitler’s
Germany”
WHEN: Monday, February 9, 2026 – 10:15 – 11:15 a.m. CST
Location: Spies Public Library, 940 1st Street, Menominee, Michigan, Fireplace Room
In 1933, President Franklin D. Roosevelt began his famous “fireside chats,” speaking directly to
the American people to build understanding and unity around issues that affected their daily lives.
Inspired by that spirit, the Menominee County Democratic Party (MCDP) continues its series of
community “fireside chats” — to inform, connect, and engage residents on topics that matter to
them. Clear participation norms will be shared to ensure that every voice can be heard in a
respectful, safe, and welcoming environment.
Join us on February 9, 2026, at 10:15 a.m. for a rare opportunity to hear a living witness recount
what it was truly like to grow up in Hitler’s Germany. In this special session, local resident
Mildred (Millie) Hofer will open a window into the past, sharing her personal story of resilience,
family, and the lessons learned during one of history’s most turbulent eras.
This is more than a presentation—it’s a conversation. After Millie’s moving account, you’ll have
the chance to ask questions, reflect, and engage in thoughtful discussion with your neighbors.
Don’t miss this chance to listen, learn, and connect with history in a way that textbooks can’t
provide.
